Alexandra Cohen has extensive experience representing clients in all aspects of matrimonial and family law matters. Ms. Cohen is an experienced litigation attorney who has successfully conducted trials and hearings in New York State Supreme and Family Courts, and has prepared and argued appeals in the Appellate Division, First and Second Departments.

Ms. Cohen has focused her practice in assisting clients navigate complex financial and legal issues related to divorce/separation, including custody and parenting schedules, child support and spousal support, valuation and division of assets, and valuation of businesses and professional degrees.

Although an experienced trial attorney, Ms. Cohen believes that she can often effectively accomplish her clients' goals through negotiated settlements. Ms. Cohen utilizes her negotiation skills to provide her clients with creative solutions to complicated problems. Whether the final divorce is obtained by way of negotiated settlement or a court trial, Ms. Cohen emphasizes collaboration with professionals to advise on related tax, financial and estate planning issues so each client has access to the most complete information that impacts their financial well-being following completion of their divorce or separation.

In addition to representing individual clients, Ms. Cohen has a growing mediation practice working with couples who have the capacity to collaborate on their divorce or separation. Through mediation, Ms. Cohen applies her expertise to provide the couple with the tools to craft solutions in a process that can otherwise be daunting and complicated, in a manner that is tailored to their individual needs and circumstances. Ms. Cohen's approach to mediation is based on her years practicing matrimonial law, completion of successful mediations, and formal mediation training. For example, Ms. Cohen completed a comprehensive divorce mediation training at the Center for Mediation & Training, a program that has been approved by the Association for Conflict Resolution as a 40-hour comprehensive Divorce Mediation training.

Finally, Ms. Cohen effectively represents high net worth clients negotiate prenuptial and postnuptial agreements that address their personal goals and objectives. Ms. Cohen has developed an expertise working with clients with international matters, which may include anticipated relocation overseas and ensuring enforcement and compliance with the terms of their Agreement in foreign jurisdictions, or coordinating with appropriate professionals within the foreign jurisdiction for asset protection and estate planning matters.
